Current Projects

Four projects are currently under preparation:

In the Province of Bologna a local PRIME project is planned in the building of the Technical High School Belluzzi. In the Institute Belluzzi three groups have been active in favor of PRIME Italy:

(1)    The service provider COFATECH, who since five years provides the energy service for all schools under the regime of the Province of Bologna, quite interested in being involved in the project PRIME made available all the data necessary and elaborated several proposals on what measures to take.

(2)    The personnel of the Province of Bologna who worked in close collaboration with COFATECH and with the school administration. The data put at their disposal by COFATHEC were evaluated by the Building department of the Province of Bologna and the Italian coordination.

(3)    The principal and some of the teachers informed on PRIME and in favour of it. During the school year 2006/2007 as part of the scholastic training the pupils of the Belluzzi Institute together with their teachers have been monitoring with the support of the Energy Office of the Province of Bologna the temperatures of the school rooms and doing so they found out that in many rooms the temperature is 3 – 4 degrees higher than what the law prescribes. Further they found out that the school is also being heated on Saturday and Sunday with an enormous waste of energy.

A similar project is planned in the City of Antwerp. In the school building of the Stedelijk Lyceum the implementation of energy efficiency measures is under preparation. It is not foreseen to involve private investors, so in fact it is no real PRIME project. Furthermore, the cabinet of the councillor of education expressed his wishes to retrofit more school buildings and even to build some passive schools as well, with the financial help of the Flemish Minister of education.

In the City of Graz two projects are planned: The central building of the Sports Centre must be refurbished because it only has a slight heat insulation and the windows do not close properly. Thanks to the contact with PRIME, all the issues relating to energy became a topic, and the deliberations about refurbishment were extended to the overall complex. Furthermore, changing the energy source was suggested.

In the IT centre waste heat of the central server room of municipal IT is blown into the air without being used throughout the year. This waste heat could be used for hot water supply. The Deputy Head was interested in taking part in a PRIME project. However, the building is serviced by an ESCO. Therefore, this ESCO’s integration was necessary, at any rate (independently from the PRIME requirements). With the consent of the ESCO, the IT Department will therefore probably implement measures to use the waste heat without external participation. However, it also is possible that the ESCO implements the measures autonomously. No decision has been taken up to now. This means this is no complete PRIME project but the implementation of a meaningful use of energy.

More details about these projects and other results of the whole PRIME action can be found in the interner Link folgtfinal report (PDF 1,8 MB).
